Wishing the
HAPPIEST of BIRTHDAYS
to our 8 year old Little Miss!
The inspiration for this year’s poem comes from Mother Goose. I thought of “Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary” because many believe that this poem was written about Queen Mary I of England, or Mary, Queen of Scots. And in our home, the Little Miss most certainly reigns supreme. I also thought of the poem because as the Little Miss gets older (sob!) she is entering into a more questioning stage of life. It may drive her parents crazy at times, but it also excites us to behold her thinking critically about the world, in search of understanding and truth. It is our hope and our prayer that this questioning and seeking will lead her boldly toward a life of goodness, wisdom, and faith.

A Poem For My Girl
My Baby, baby, your birthday today be,
How did you grow so fast?
With eyes so bright and arms stretched wide
Embracing God’s world, awesome and vast.
Little Miss, Little Miss, such a Big Sis,
How do you love so well?
With hugs and kisses and fairy wishes
For little brothers under your spell.
Daughter, daughter, mermaid in the water,
How do you have such grace?
You sing, you dance, you underwater prance,
Your movement as lovely as lace.
Child, child, not quiet, shy or mild,
Where does your courage come from?
With head held high and in full stride
Marching to the beat of your own drum.
Girly, girly, all in a whirly,
When did you get that speed?
To run and flip, spin and kick –
An athlete determined to succeed.
Friend, friend, charming till the end,
How do you sparkle so bright?
Attracting pals with your flare, jokes and
double-dog dares,
You’re a pixie, a jester, a delight.
Very, very, pre-teen contrary,
Where did you get that sass?
You make your mother sigh with all of the “WHY?”
A born leader, you’ll take on top brass.
Pupil, pupil, your brain never too full,
How did you become so smart?
A curious little sponge who soaks it all in,
Mastering studies with incredible heart.
Annabelle, Annabelle, leaping lil gazelle,
How do you have such verve?
With a mind full of stories and legs full of spring
Why walk straight when you can curve?
Seeker, Seeker, not one to be meeker,
What adventure will you find today?
We parents want to hold you and never let you go
But trust God to lead you all the way!
Happy Birthday Annabelle!! Excited for what this next year will bring for you!!
Love you always,
Grammie
