Happy 5th Birthday, Little Sir!

A poem for my dearest Little Sir

lover of the wild
tamer of the beasts
on this, his

5th birthday

**********

Joyful as a dolphin
Imagination sailing on the high seas
With dreams as big as mountains
And wonders stretching high like the trees!

Thoughtful as an owl
Perched upon his tree
Wisely pondering the world around
Unruffled as can be

Silly as a monkey
Swinging through trees of jokes
Armed with wit and an impish grin
He’s a joy to his laugh-loving folks

Lovable as a pup
A tumble-jumble of hugs and kisses
Sugary sweet, both inside and out
With many a bone that the doctor fixes

Shy as a turtle
Peeping cautiously from his shell
He moseys along, resilient and strong
A gentle spirit averse to pell-mell

Smart as a piglet
Gobbling up books, legos and stories
On the hunt with his “what?,” “why?” and how?”
A scientist in his life laboratory

Adventurous as an eagle
With his crew he is fierce, wild and brave
Bad guys attacking his castle?
“Get back, ye villainous knaves!”

Stubborn as an elephant
Choosing his steps (and ride) (and bed) with nerve
Arched brow declares he’ll win the day
Strong will says he won’t swerve

Indignant as a blowfish
He ain’t gonna take no guff
With deep lungs he commands the room
But with a tickle, he’s back to our cream puff

Tender as a lamb
Cuddled into mommy’s side
Desiring quiet talk and nuzzles
As the moon kisses the night sky

Growing like a caterpillar
Hungry to see, try and explore
His Mama just wants to hold him close
While new wings beckon to big boy shores

We love you, sweet, smart, shy, joyful, WONDERFUL

Little Sir.

HAPPY 5th BIRTHDAY!
