Farewell to Summer (a.k.a. Topsail Beach!)

Okay, okay.  So summer technically ended a while ago.  But time flies (i.e. blog posts are so much harder to write) when you are chasing around two very active (needy!) children.  I LOVE my Little Munchkins, but boy do they keep me on my toes…and grasping to my sanity.

Our summer ended on a major high note with a week at Topsail Beach with Nena and Pops (Plaxico).  Let’s just say that if I could afford to move my family there, I’d do it…in an instant.

We stayed at a house right on the beach, and had a BLAST enjoying the sand and waves right outside of our door.

Little Miss: “Nena and Pops rock my face off!”

Our fearless Little Surfer Girl

Such a sweet Daddy. He builds, she destroys.

Little Miss: “I’m a flamingo!”

Three generations of Plaxico ladies

Truth be told, the Little Mister spent much of the time asleep in someone’s arms or a baby carrier.  But one day soon he’ll be chasing seagulls and eating sand with his Big Sis!

When we weren’t soaking up rays, we filled our time…

Playing around at the house.

Enjoying a cruise on the nearby sound (A “nature cruise”.  We didn’t see much – err, any – nature, but the Little Miss sure had a great time rocking out to the 1950s music they blasted along the way!).

…And finding all sorts of other adventures in the area.  One of my favorite moments came when the Little Miss and I went on a special date to get ice cream.  After enjoying our treats, we took a stroll down a nearby pier.  We were flanked on both sides by a bunch of Old Salts fishing for their dinners.  With cigarettes hanging out of their mouths, they watched in amusement as my Little Lady trotted around in her multi-colored sunglasses and bright pink outfit.  Totally unaware of the audience forming around her, she turned to me, clapped her hands, and said:

“Mama, dance!”

And so we did.

Our Little Sassy Pants (sunglasses included!)

And so with that we bid farewell to summer.  It was a fun, exhausting, wonderful, overwhelming, crazy few months.  We have no clue what the next season has in store for us, but we are so excited to enter into it as a family of four.  Life is good.

We love the beach!  And we love Nena and Pops!
