A Day of Firsts

The Little Miss had a big day on Sunday, complete with many exciting FIRSTS!

To start, she was able to enjoy her FIRST LOLLIPOP…

This wonderful little treat allowed for her next first of the day…The Little Beauty’s FIRST HAIRCUT!

Pre-lollipop…note the look of concern!

Let’s just say a big-time meltdown was averted by what will now be affectionately called the “miracle-on-a-stick” in our home.  But really, can you blame her?  Some unknown woman was coming at the Little Miss with scissors in hand!  Though truth be told, Donna the stylist was very nice…and fast!

And though our Little Lady is – and has always been – ADORABLE, Daddy and I decided that it was time to even out her “do” as it had grown into a wee toddler mullet.  We were too afraid to attempt the task ourselves, and so we opted to head over to our local “Peek-A-Do” hair salon.  There, armed with a delicious lollipop, and sitting in an airplane chair with Dora The Explorer playing on her own TV screen, our girl got her first trim!

SUCCESS!!!  Goodness, if only all salons could be so plush!  And if you are wondering…YES, we do accept that we are complete yuppies for taking our child to such a place.  But seriously people, there’s no way I could give her a reasonably good-looking cut.  Do you realize how wiggly my Little Monkey is?!?!?

And finally, to finish her day in style, the Little Miss entertained us with her FIRST MUSICAL PERFORMANCE!

The harmonica is complements of our weekly Kindermusik class (music and movement for toddlers), which the Little Dancer absolutely loves.  Thanks to Nena and Pops for this great Christmas gift!

It was a great day of firsts for our Little Miss…a day we will always cherish!

(Final note: If you asked Daddy and me which first was the most memorable, I’m sure we’d both say the haircut.  But if you asked the Little Lady I can guarantee that her answer would be…
“The LOLLIPOP, of course!!!”)

We Love Our Little Girl

When walking out of the Little Lady’s 18-month appointment this week, I was blown away by how quickly she is growing up.  Where has the time gone, by golly?  It seems like just yesterday we were bringing her home from the hospital, and attempting to figure out this new crazy role of “parent” (and “nursemaid,” and “paramedic,” and “stinky trash collector,” and…).

Thinking back about how far we’ve come, and how much she has changed and grown over this past 1 1/2 years, I wanted to try to scribble down some fun facts about our blossoming Little Flower.

There are SO MANY things we adore about her.  Here are just a handful…

– She is still “rocking the charts” with her development.  After hearing her latest stats from the doctor (below), I continue to dream about all of the volleyball we can play together.  Given how tall her Daddy is, she’s probably going to whoop me!

  • 24 lbs and 15 1/2 oz in weight (70%)
  • 34 3/4 inches in height (still over the 97%!)
  • 46 1/2 cm in head circumference (50%)

– She’s a total sweetheart who loves to cuddle, hug, kiss (she makes this cute fish face when she puckers up), high five…you name it!  Though sometimes she plays hard to get and makes you chase her around the house before she’ll run into your arms for a big squeeze.

– She loves to sing and dance…especially to “You are My Sunshine,” “The Itsy Bitsy Spider”, and “The Wheels on the Bus.”  And nothing gets her giggling like when Mommy sings “The Ants Go Marching…”  It always turns into a crazy-silly family parade around the house with the Little Majorette marching in the lead.

– She talks up a storm these days, using lots of simple phrases with “real” words, as well as plenty of long (and animated!) sentences of jibber jabber.  She talks from the moment she wakes up to the moment she goes to sleep.  Some of our favorites are:

  • “Up in the sky!” – She started saying this after watching Sesame Street.  Now everything in her world is “up in the sky”…like birds, horses, dogs, plates, trees, you name it!
  • “Up, up, up!” – When she wants to go upstairs
  • “Oh my goodness!” and “Uh-oh!”
  • “Hey baby!” – Pronounced like she’s a Little Italian
  • “I go gee goo!” – Meaning “I’m gonna get you!”, which is what she says when she wants us to chase her around the house
  • “Diaper!” – She yells this out the minute you enter the room after she’s been sleeping.  I guess we’ve trained her well.  Hopefully one day soon she’ll be just as enthusiastic about the big girl potty.

– Chase is pretty much the #1 game in our house these days, followed closely by tackling Teddy, playing “ball”, and making “Tea!” using her new play kitchen.

– She’s a climber!  Better keep your eyes open, or she’ll be up on a table before you know it!

Well, that’s just a start.  I could go on, and on, and on, and on.  But suffice to say…

WE LOVE OUR LITTLE MISS!!!!!!

Our Little Christmas Dancer

Christmas greetings!  Well, given that it’s nearing the end of January I guess it would be more appropriate to say: “Christmas greetings…a month belated!”

As I mentioned in our last post, we spent the holiday with Mike’s family in Delaware.

We had a fun few days together and, as always, the Little Miss had a blast with her cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents.  Though truth be told, her heart was captured by another very special being…err, thing…Grandpop’s  remote control train.  It was love at first sight (and quite a handy distraction when Mommy and Daddy wanted a break!).

When not completely captivated by the train, the Little Miss entertained herself (and everyone else) with all sorts of fun little games and antics.  Here’s a special moment that Daddy was able to capture on camera…

“Why is Grandpop wearing a tie with his T-shirt?”, you may be asking yourself.  I cannot say…Eggnog does funny things to people, I guess.  But the Little Dancer thought he had style!

Here are a few other fun moments from our Christmas holiday…

It was a great trip and holiday!

Though this does come a month belated, we hope that your Christmas was a wonderful time with loved ones and – most importantly – a joyful celebration of the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Savior!
