Our Countdown to Christmas

The days leading up to Christmas seem to become more busy, frenetic, and sugar-filled each year.
Meaning that by the time the big day rolls around our kids are on cloud nine AND going berserk.  And we are…well, tired.

But no matter how swamped or exhausted we are, it is a MERRY time in the Wright asylum.  I mean house.

And each year we are all so excited to celebrate Jesus’ birth with as much anticipation, hoopla and frosting as we can muster.

So without further ado, here is our…

Countdown to Christmas 2014

#5: Preschool Christmas Performance!
(a.k.a. Herding Cats As They Sing and Jive to Christmas Carols)

The Little Miss, no surprise, was ready to perform.

D27

D28

The Little Mister?  Well, not so much.

D29

Though in his defense he was really congested…and bewildered.

D30

Here’s a video snippet of our Little Thespians.  Did I mention the herding cats part?
Very cute (and adorably off-tune) cats, that is.

(Type in “wright” to watch)

Lest you worry about our dazed Little Mister,
he cheered up in no time once he got to share some Christmas cookies and tickles with Auntie Erin.

D31

And our Little Sir enjoyed some cuddles with Aunt Erin too.
(Ain’t it grand to be loved?!?)

D33

The event wrapped up with Santa arriving
(cue chorus of ecstatic squeals from aforementioned pint-sized felines).

Quite the determined Little Lady, our Little Miss was the first upon his lap!
(Gifts requested?  Why Frozen/Queen Elsa pajamas, of course.)

D32

Speaking of Frozen, the kids also were able to…

#4: Whoop It Up In Our First Snow!

(Which, much to their despair, melted soon after landing.
Because who am I kidding…this is North Carolina!
But the moment was still fun.)

D44 D45

Soon after, the Little Miss and I partied it up with a…

#3: GIRLS ONLY Date to Frozen On Ice!

We were joined by Cousin Maddie, Aunt Courtney, Grammie and Aunt Erin.
(And a TWELVE DOLLAR bag of cotton candy that Chump-Mama bought for her baby girl.)

D24

D22D23

Concerned that my children’s teeth were still far too “white and sparkly” (as they call them),
I bought as much candy and frosting as my Target basket could hold and commenced…

#2: Operation Let’s Build A Gingerbread House!

(a.k.a. Let’s Shove As Much Candy Into Our Mouths Before Mom Notices What We’re Doing!
Or…
I Bet The Candy Will Stick Much Better After We’ve Licked It All!)

D25

D26

And then we wrapped up our pre-Christmas festivities with our…

#1: Annual Family Trip to the Christmas Tree Farm!

D39

The Little Miss and Little Mister, in their usual form, were cranky for most of the outing.

Undeterred, we just pulled them along,

D34

filled them with donuts and hot cocoa,

D35

and made them take lots of goofy pictures until they cheered up.

D36 D40

Of course Numero Tres was as jolly as ever.

Just like his Mama. (Ha!)

D38

D37

So all in all, the day was a success.

Even if it did take us 2 more weeks to actually put any ornaments on the tree.
Did I mention the tired part yet?

D41 D42

So there you have it, our Christmas Countdown 2014.

Now, time to find some more sweet treats to munch on…

Hooray for Christmas!!!

Christmas Cheer – 2013

“Christmas bells, Christmas bells, ring them all the day.
God the Father sent His Son on that first Christmas day!”

The holiday might be a month behind us, but that song is still sung almost daily in our home (to the tune of Jingle Bells) by a certain exuberant Little Miss.  Taking after her Mama and Daddy, our girl loves Christmas and is already asking how soon we’ll be able to celebrate again.

And really, can you blame her?  I mean, what’s not to love about celebrating our Lord’s birth with lots of fun parties and services, a light-covered tree, presents aplenty, and enough delectable treats to feed an army for a year?!?  It’s like kid heaven.

So here is a taste of our Christmas fun.

(Warning: Cheesy family slideshow forthcoming!  Get comfortable!  I recommend viewing with a glass of wine and some chocolate, but maybe that’s just me.)

With our Little Revelers after the Christmas Eve service…

Waking up to fun on Christmas Day!

Cmas3

Thanks to Santa, Mommy and Daddy, and lots of wonderful family and friends, the Little Miss and Mister did just fine in the gift department.

Cmas4 Cmas5

Cmas7 Cmas6

We were joined by Nena, Pops, and Uncle Willy (Plaxico) too!

Cmas14

But that’s not all!

We stuffed ourselves on Christmas goodies…
(Here is the Little Miss continuing the tradition of making homemade crepes on Christmas morning.  Handmade apron courtesy of Aunt Laura!)

Cmas15

Visited the Life & Science Museum…
(Technically on Christmas Eve day.  This was taken in the bug room…a place that this squeamish Mama avoids at all costs).

Cmas16

And enjoyed a delightful Christmas dinner at Grammie and Poppy’s house with the Wright and Plaxico clans!  Don’t Grammie and Poppy look fetching in their crowns?!

Christmas = awesome.  Even though it is a whole lot more exhausting as a parent when you actually have to do the work to make it special.  It’s yet another moment in life that I gain a deeper appreciation for my parents.  …And kinda wish I could be a kid again.

We hope you all had a MERRY CHRISTMAS as well!
