Here’s hoping you all had a very HAPPY EASTER this year!
We had a blast talking with our Littles about the meaning of Easter – the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ – and celebrating these awesome events with a joyful Easter service at church, a fun Wright family party, and 5 different Easter Egg hunts!
(The latter of which resulting in the kids scoring ridiculous amounts of sugary booty…booty that keeps mysteriously ending up in their parents’ bellies. I’m not sure how it happens, but I do know we’ll pay for it later.)
These photos are from our Easter Egg hunt at home. My Little Planners kicked things off by drawing maps for their hunt (giving time for a certain Tall Red Haired Easter Bunny to hide some eggs).
And then the hunt was on!!!
The Little Sir may not have gotten in on any of the candy action, but he still had fun.
And he was just as smooch-able as ever.
When it was all said and done (err…hunted and gathered?),
Mike and I attempted to wrangle the Littles for a heart-warming Easter photo…
With limited success…
Emphasis on the limited part…
Oh well. That’s us…messy hair, chocolate faces and all.
The days leading up to Christmas seem to become more busy, frenetic, and sugar-filled each year.
Meaning that by the time the big day rolls around our kids are on cloud nine AND going berserk. And we are…well, tired.
But no matter how swamped or exhausted we are, it is a MERRY time in the Wright asylum. I mean house.
And each year we are all so excited to celebrate Jesus’ birth with as much anticipation, hoopla and frosting as we can muster.
So without further ado, here is our…
Countdown to Christmas 2014
#5: Preschool Christmas Performance!
(a.k.a. Herding Cats As They Sing and Jive to Christmas Carols)
The Little Miss, no surprise, was ready to perform.
The Little Mister? Well, not so much.
Though in his defense he was really congested…and bewildered.
Here’s a video snippet of our Little Thespians. Did I mention the herding cats part?
Very cute (and adorably off-tune) cats, that is.
(Type in “wright” to watch)
Lest you worry about our dazed Little Mister,
he cheered up in no time once he got to share some Christmas cookies and tickles with Auntie Erin.
And our Little Sir enjoyed some cuddles with Aunt Erin too.
(Ain’t it grand to be loved?!?)
The event wrapped up with Santa arriving
(cue chorus of ecstatic squeals from aforementioned pint-sized felines).
Quite the determined Little Lady, our Little Miss was the first upon his lap!
(Gifts requested? Why Frozen/Queen Elsa pajamas, of course.)
Speaking of Frozen, the kids also were able to…
#4: Whoop It Up In Our First Snow!
(Which, much to their despair, melted soon after landing.
Because who am I kidding…this is North Carolina!
But the moment was still fun.)
Soon after, the Little Miss and I partied it up with a…
#3: GIRLS ONLY Date to Frozen On Ice!
We were joined by Cousin Maddie, Aunt Courtney, Grammie and Aunt Erin.
(And a TWELVE DOLLAR bag of cotton candy that Chump-Mama bought for her baby girl.)
Concerned that my children’s teeth were still far too “white and sparkly” (as they call them),
I bought as much candy and frosting as my Target basket could hold and commenced…
#2: Operation Let’s Build A Gingerbread House!
(a.k.a. Let’s Shove As Much Candy Into Our Mouths Before Mom Notices What We’re Doing!
Or…
I Bet The Candy Will Stick Much Better After We’ve Licked It All!)
And then we wrapped up our pre-Christmas festivities with our…
#1: Annual Family Trip to the Christmas Tree Farm!
The Little Miss and Little Mister, in their usual form, were cranky for most of the outing.
Undeterred, we just pulled them along,
filled them with donuts and hot cocoa,
and made them take lots of goofy pictures until they cheered up.
Of course Numero Tres was as jolly as ever.
Just like his Mama. (Ha!)
So all in all, the day was a success.
Even if it did take us 2 more weeks to actually put any ornaments on the tree.
Did I mention the tired part yet?
So there you have it, our Christmas Countdown 2014.
Now, time to find some more sweet treats to munch on…
Though the tree may be gone, and the ornaments and lights may be packed away,
joyful memories of Christmastime still resonate in our hearts and minds.
Okay, okay. So the lights are still up on our house, and we’ll likely be “that family” in the neighborhood who will forgetfully leave them there until Easter… Just in time to replace them with eggs. But tis the season, right?!?
Feeble-attempt-at-poetic-prose aside, Christmas was a happy time in the Wright abode. Joined by Nena and Pops (Plaxico), we donned our holiday-finest and celebrated Christmas Eve with our church family at All Saints Church…
…And even attempted to take a family photo of the jolly occassion.
Pre-bribe of M&Ms – and anything else she wanted – to get a certain Little Miss Goofball to cooperate
And post-bribe. I’ll take what I can get.
Despite dealing with a family full of colds (in this regard, my children are a little too good at sharing), Christmas day was great fun as well…
Rise and shine! Santa was here!
Family photo attempt #1,382. I’m pretty sure Daddy’s back there…somewhere.
Thank goodness for grandparents who will get up with children who wake too early!!!
I can say with complete confidence that our Little Ones did just fine in the gift department. Not that the Little Mister had any clue what all of the hullabaloo was about, of course. But he played along like a good Little Christmas Trooper.
Sweet new ride, thanks to Grammie and Poppy Wright!
In our house, Christmas ain’t Christmas without a new flashlight from Pops.
And lots of Christmas cuddles from Nena!
Another special treat was getting to celebrate the holiday with our dear friends, the Mugfords. We had this crazy idea that we’d commemorate the moment with a photo (sans Little Mister, who was already in bed). Here’s a little glimpse into how well that went.
One guess at who the Little Ham was…
Again, I’ll take what I can get.
Oh, and just in case the Little Miss asks, the Christmas tree is now “taking a nap at the tree farm” until we pick it up again next year. And the dump truck she saw hauling it away? Why, that was just some kind men delivering it (gently) to it’s resting place…
