Westward Ho! ~ Uncle Will’s Wedding

Each year our family journeys out west to the Plaxico family homeland – Southern California – so we can commune with our inner hippy and soak up some (humidity-free) surf and sun.  This year’s trip was a little different because we had a very special event to celebrate…

1_img_5205

You heard me right, folks!  Uncle Willy got HITCHED!  Hitched to the lovely (and patient) Laura Rose, that is.  She’s pretty awesome.  We’re all big fans.

32_img_5555

Uncle Willy and LR decided to tie the knot on a mountain beside June Lake, CA, which I gotta tell you, is not the easiest destination to travel to (especially when Southwest Airlines decides to have all of its computers shut down and planes grounded on your travel day).  But for this shaggy chap, whom we dearly love, we’ll endure anything.

2_will

After the 17 hours of travel (which included the Little Mister holding my head in his lap during an especially bumpy plane ride while I prayed to not lose my lunch), we finally made it to June Lake.

Let me just say…GORGEOUS.

img_1972-2

We spent the next few days tooling around the lake with family.  Beachin’, hikin’, climbin’, swimmin’, boatin’, polar bear plungin’…you name it, we did it.  With Nena The Cruise Director at the helm, we’d expect nothing less.  It was so much fun.

And then it was time for the main event!  We snazzed ourselves up in our finest Willy-wants-this-wedding-to-be-laid-back-but-we-still-wanna-look-nice-and-not-get-sunburned-or-frozen-on-the-mountain attire.  Yeah, not complicated (or stressful) at all.

But I think we pulled it off…and even managed to tuck in everyone’s shirts just in time to walk down the aisle.

3_img_5386

4_img_5208

Let me just take a pause here to savor this moment…it’s not often that I get to have my 3 Littles all dolled up in coordinating outfits AND not covered in dirt.  Be still, my proud Mama heart!

Bow ties are magical.

Okay, I’m back.

Bedecked and bedazzled, we headed for the mountain!

7_img_5212

Most of the guests took the chair-lift up, but pulling that off (safely) with this crazy crew felt like a stretch.

5_img_5210

So we hopped in some 4-wheel-drive SUVs and enjoyed a less harrowing (i.e., non-heart attack inducing) trip up the mountain.  Cause you know, I’m all for adventures, but this Mama/Aunt has got to keep her babies safe.

8_img_5213

And we made it!  Let me say again, GORGEOUS.

img_2022

And that beautiful view was followed by this very sweet moment…

43_img_2016

The kiddos were all super excited to have been included in Will and LR’s special day.

We laughed, we cried, we sweated, we bribed fidgety children with ring-pops.

53_img_5380

And then we partied!

I snapped this photo around 8:30pm (11:30pm EST), when all of the kids were starting to come unhinged from fatigue (not pictured is the Little Mister hollering to Uncle Joe, “YOU’RE the pizza pie!” and giggling hysterically).

41_img_5416

So the Daddies took the kids back to the condos to sleep.  We ladies made it until 10pm before we keeled over, just in time to watch a very merry Pops (my dad) boogie and jive like it was 1965.  Word even had it that after we left the Festive Fellow actually attempted to do The Worm on the dance floor…all to the delight and amazement of my brother’s pals.  THE WORM, people.  I have no words.

And so with that ridiculous image echoing through your minds I’ll wrap things up.

The first part of our family’s westward odyssey was great fun.  We had such a sweet, hectic, lively few days in June Lake and were so glad to have been a part of Will and Laura Rose’s big day.

To Will and LR, we wish you two a lifetime FULL of love, laughter and adventure together.

And hopefully a wagon full of babies to come along for the ride (hint, hint)!

Beachin’ ~ 2016

Hey you.  Yeah, you!

1a_IMG_3441

It’s me, the Little Sir.

6_IMG_3547

I know, I know…I’m so cute.  And awesome.  It’s just the way God made me.

Anyhoo…guess where my family took me this June?

To Emerald Isle, that’s where!

1_IMG_3371

Mommy calls it our family’s “happy place.”  Now most of the time I think my Mommy’s crazy, and I have no idea what she’s talking about.  But in this case, I’ve gotta give the woman credit…it is a great place where are always have so much FUN.

26_IMG_1855

And after trucking it out there 4 years in a row now, my family has our Emerald Isle routine down pat.

We fill up our tanks,

2_IMG_1875

Get in the zone,

3_IMG_3424

3b_IMG_3556

Accessorize appropriately,

30_IMG_3541

Make sure our hair is just right,

3c_IMG_3554

And then get down to business!

Wave-jumping, sandcastle-building, ruckus-making
BEACH business, that is!!!

11_IMG_3507

I’m the Lil Boss of it all, just in case you were wondering.
The buck stops here.

Cause you know, somebody’s gotta keep all these yoo-hoos in line.

7_IMG_3519

4_IMG_3429 4a_IMG_3542

15b_IMG_3501

28_IMG_3543

Oh dear.

They’re all so lucky to have me.  Cause, you know, I’m one clever Little Chap.

Mommy calls me her “Cheeky Baby,” but I have no idea what cheeks have to do with it.  It’s my brain that’s so darn amazing.

15c_IMG_3524

But I digress.

As I was saying, my family LOVES the beach so much, and I love to keep an eye on everyone.

15_IMG_3549

12_IMG_3469

And have a rocking good time in the process!

Especially with my Big Sis and Big Bro.  They’re aces in my book.

Well, they are until they steal my Paw Patrol toys.  Then we have a problem.

But no matter what, no matter where, we always have a good (loud) time together.

27_IMG_1808

Like that time we were playing “puppies.”  Mommy kept reminding us not to actually lick the sand, but I thought it looked delectable (and who has time to listen anyways?!).

Well, at least I did at first…BLEH.

31_IMG_3588

And so from this Little (Saucy) Reporter, there you have it…

We’ll be back!!!

I’m Dreaming of a San Diego Vacation

It’s getting cold.
And I’m sore from having my wisdom tooth yanked out last week.
And the antibiotics I’m taking are making me feel like a big yucky schlub.
And, and, and.  What I’m really trying to say is…

I WISH I WAS BACK IN SAN DIEGO!!!

23_IMG_1301

And I’m pretty sure the Littles wish they were too…

1_IMG_1345

Each year we try to pilgrimage back to the Plaxico family homeland.  And so in August the Hubs and I lugged our 3 wiggly kids, 4 carry-on bags, 6 checked suitcases, and 3 car seats on 2 flights across the country, armed with the sheer determination to do whatever it took to JUST…GET…THERE.
And not lose it in the process.

2_IMG_0564

(Why yes, that is my son wearing a diaper on his head.  How else would one get the adult-sized earphones to sit comfortably on top of a cranky three-year-old?  I thought it was pretty genius, even if we did get a lot of funny looks from the flight attendants.  That M.B.A. of mine is coming in handy, people!)

I would not call it a relaxing venture.  But, we made it.

(With a whole lotta help from everyone’s favorite Apple products.  And SNACKS.  Oh my Lordy, so many snacks.  And the Littles, to their credit, were pretty good.)

40_IMG_0598 41_IMG_0601

And then it was family vacation time, baby!  Time to kick back, relax, and…oh wait.

1a_IMG_1435

Time-zone change be darned (yes, you heard me right), we were desperate to shake off the North Carolina heat and engulf ourselves in the mid-70s paradise that is Southern California.  Well, at least we were after Nena woke up with the Littles at 5am…and did potty duty…and got them dressed…and fed them breakfast.  She’s a keeper.

42_IMG_1451

As I was saying, (after Nena made us some coffee) we were ready to get out there and do some adventuring!

3a_IMG_1361

4_IMG_1391 5_IMG_1354

6_IMG_1409

7_IMG_1415

8_IMG_1358

We spent every waking moment outside and had a great time (wearing Mama and Daddy out AND),

Enjoying some sand facials at the beach and the bay…

9_IMG_0591

(Our three Little Technicians are not what I’d call “gentle,” but they will work for fruit snacks!)

12_IMG_1475

13_IMG_1467

14_IMG_1461

16_IMG_1462 15_IMG_1457

(And lemme tell you, the lifeguards just looooved us.  Especially when the Littles would destroy their perches by digging tunnels to China under their feet.)

17_IMG_0587

Bonding with all the sunburned tourists at the zoo…

(That orangutan had an uncanny resemblance to someone I know…)

19_IMG_1264

24_IMG_1305

25_IMG_1308

25b_IMG_0697

And making a ruckus around Nena and Pops’ house…

(With all of our squawking and squeaking, the neighbors loved us almost as much as the lifeguards did!)

26_IMG_1235

This, by the way, was how Pops dressed THE ENTIRE TWO WEEK TRIP.  I began to wonder if the man even owned a shirt.  Or shoes.  Or a hairbrush.  Overwhelmed by their grandfather’s disdain for anything related to personal grooming, the kids took matters into their own hands…

27_IMG_1227

27_IMG_1224

With all of the belly and body hair we were forced to witness, I think it’s clear that Pops got his just dessert.  And the Littles were oh so pleased with themselves.

29a_IMG_1324

28_IMG_1214 29_IMG_1483

30_IMG_1251

When we weren’t out on adventures we were visiting with dear friends of yore.

Like Peggy, my second Mama (and old Daycare Provider, or “Daycare Divider” as I used to call her),

32_IMG_0594

Amanda Fleming Perez (a friend of mine since preschool!) and her sweet girls,

33_IMG_0585

Kelly Sonnack Szymczak (a friend since elementary school!) and her adorable crew,

44_P1040431

45_P1040432

And the Little Missy’s wonderful godparents, Martha and Jeff (friends from our DC days)!

34_IMG_0700

Martha and Jeff traveled all the way from Tucson just to see us.  They are the BEST.

36_IMG_0706

And such good sports!

35_IMG_0703

It was a lively, fun, full, exhausting trip…complete with great times with loved ones, tons of enriching activities, the occasional meltdown, and the more than occasional trip to Mr. Frosty’s ice cream store (SEE previous).

Did I mention the Little Mister turned 3 just before this trip?  Yeah, that.

31_IMG_0595

(This was totally self-inflicted…and I fully admit that I left him there for a while so I could keel over laughing.  And then grab the camera.  And then laugh a little more.

…Yep, still funny.)

But we had a fun time and are very grateful for these two Troopers who helped make it happen…

38_IMG_0597 37_IMG_1480

We love you, Nena and Pops!

3a_IMG_1491

So until we meet again, beloved San Diego, we’ll pull a Cinderella and keep on wishing.

Though I’m not sure what meek little Miss Cinderella would have thought if her fairy godmother showed up looking like this!
