The Little Mister is 4 Months Old!

Our Little Man turned 4 months old today!

The Little Mister has FILLED our lives and our hearts with so much love and joy.  We adore him, head to toe!!!

Here are some fun facts about our sweet Little 4-Month-Old…

–  He loves to smile and laugh!  He makes the cutest baby giggles when I kiss his belly or play peek-a-boo with him in the mirror.

–  He is still the sweetest Little Cuddlebug.  Though he enjoys playing in his exersaucer or on his playmat for a few minutes, there’s no place he’d rather be than in your arms!

– He is (finally) becoming a good sleeper!  He continues to sleep for 12 hours at night in his crib (with 1-2 feedings), followed by another hour of sleep (and cuddling) with Mama in her bed.  Naps have been a challenge, but we’ve started sleep training and he is (slowly) making progress.

–  He still thinks his Big Sis is the best thing since sliced bread.  When she holds him, he reaches for her face and gives her big sloppy kisses.  Her squeals make him cry in 0.2 seconds (he shocks easily), but thankfully he can be quickly consoled (did I mention he likes to cuddle?).

–  He’s a Little Chunk!  When he starts to get hungry he’ll squeal and frantically stick his entire fist, or any nearby toy, into his mouth.

Here are his stats:
– Length/height of 27 in, 99%
– Weight of 18 lb 6 oz, 90%
– Head circumference of 41 3/4 cm, 50%

–  He’s a talker!  I was convinced that a second-born would be more quiet and passive, since he’d have to contend with a very talkative older sister.  But who am I kidding?  I am a second-born!  Like his Mama, he is anything but quiet!  He coos, gurgles, giggles, squeals…lemme tell you, this kid has some lungs on him!

–  He is rolling!  My Little Mover started rolling in both directions just after he turned 3 months old.  It took me a while to catch his moves on video, but I finally managed it…

We LOVE our Little Mister!  Happy 4 months, baby boy!

Farewell to Summer (a.k.a. Topsail Beach!)

Okay, okay.  So summer technically ended a while ago.  But time flies (i.e. blog posts are so much harder to write) when you are chasing around two very active (needy!) children.  I LOVE my Little Munchkins, but boy do they keep me on my toes…and grasping to my sanity.

Our summer ended on a major high note with a week at Topsail Beach with Nena and Pops (Plaxico).  Let’s just say that if I could afford to move my family there, I’d do it…in an instant.

We stayed at a house right on the beach, and had a BLAST enjoying the sand and waves right outside of our door.

Little Miss: “Nena and Pops rock my face off!”

Our fearless Little Surfer Girl

Such a sweet Daddy. He builds, she destroys.

Little Miss: “I’m a flamingo!”

Three generations of Plaxico ladies

Truth be told, the Little Mister spent much of the time asleep in someone’s arms or a baby carrier.  But one day soon he’ll be chasing seagulls and eating sand with his Big Sis!

When we weren’t soaking up rays, we filled our time…

Playing around at the house.

Enjoying a cruise on the nearby sound (A “nature cruise”.  We didn’t see much – err, any – nature, but the Little Miss sure had a great time rocking out to the 1950s music they blasted along the way!).

…And finding all sorts of other adventures in the area.  One of my favorite moments came when the Little Miss and I went on a special date to get ice cream.  After enjoying our treats, we took a stroll down a nearby pier.  We were flanked on both sides by a bunch of Old Salts fishing for their dinners.  With cigarettes hanging out of their mouths, they watched in amusement as my Little Lady trotted around in her multi-colored sunglasses and bright pink outfit.  Totally unaware of the audience forming around her, she turned to me, clapped her hands, and said:

“Mama, dance!”

And so we did.

Our Little Sassy Pants (sunglasses included!)

And so with that we bid farewell to summer.  It was a fun, exhausting, wonderful, overwhelming, crazy few months.  We have no clue what the next season has in store for us, but we are so excited to enter into it as a family of four.  Life is good.

We love the beach!  And we love Nena and Pops!

Bless a Mama’s Heart

The Little Miss has done so well at school.  Each time I’ve dropped her off, she’s run into the classroom, given her teacher a big hug, and started playing with her pals.

Until today.

The morning started a little rough when she awoke unusually fussy.  Then, as we walked up the pathway to the church building, she started whining and “fake crying.”  And finally, when we arrived to the classroom, she broke down.

As in red face, runny nose, big rolling tears – broke down.

She grabbed my legs and hid her face behind them as she wailed.  Trying to help, Miss Pam scooped my Little Miss into a big hug so that I could make a quick exit.  I felt overwhelmed with sadness and guilt, and had to muster a ridiculous amount of Mama-willpower to walk away.

My poor baby.

Unable to contain myself, the Little Mister and I arrived 15 minutes early so we could be sure to be the first ones at the door when class ended.  We waited outside, listening to the 11 happy 2-year-old voices sing and pray.

When Miss Pam released the Little Miss, my sweet girl squealed “MOM-MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!” as she ran into my arms for a big hug.

And then, as we drove home, she gave me this huge smile and said:

“Annabelle make happy!  Annabelle got to see Mama!”

Right then and there, my heart melted.

My kid rocks.
